DIY – Rear speaker install in an EG civic
I was driving the other day thinking how s*&^ the sound quality was from the 2000s spec Sony stereo which got me wondering how hard would it be to somehow upgrade the speakers in the EG hatch. Looked at some ideas which involved putting speakers in the hatch cover… this seems far from ideal as the cover is so flimsy. This got me wondering what factory options there were. Little did i know that the higher spec civics had rear speakers… if only i had have known that as I’ve seen a few upper spec ones at various wrecking yards. Anyway on one of my trips i decided to check out a EG VTI civic hatch and sure enough it had rear speakers.
The amazing bit is that it seems all civics are already wired up for this. If you pop your old covers off you will see the wires bundled onto the loom which goes to the back of the car:
I removed the bit of plastic which partially blocks the mount for the speaker:
You then bolt in he speaker bracket and plug in the speaker
Attach the cover and you are done. I guess there is a chance that your head unit does not have the rears plugged in, if so you might need to wire them in. This mod is so easy, anyone can do it and now you can sit back and enjoy some tunes with a bit more depth in the music! Total cost for me was $25!
For the Power Mirrors, did you take the harness from another car for the wiring portion?
Yeah I pulled this from the junkyard when i got the mirrors, saying that – this is possibly the same harness across all 90s spec Hondas with power mirrors.
where can i get the pig tails for that harness

Sorry for the huge delay in the reply. I get so much spam on this blog that its hard to filter out the real comments. Do you mean the speaker side? I think it would be pretty hard unless you can source some Honda speakers. The other side will be pre-wired into your EG already. If you are missing one side of the connector its possibly better to find any other 2 pin connector and just rewire both sides.
